Truce has a more contemporary idea of hospitality than the usual cocktail bar. In Bucktown, it runs from morning into night, serving coffee all day and cocktails all night, which gives the room a looser, more useful, more lived in character than places that only come alive after dark. That structure could have made it feel unfocused, but it seems to do the opposite. Truce comes across as a true neighborhood spot, one where a serious drinks program is folded naturally into everyday rhythm rather than separated from it. Recent recognition as a best new bar also suggests that the concept has landed with real force, not just novelty.
